The Ancient Magus' Bride (Japanese: 魔法使いの嫁, Hepburn: Mahō Tsukai no Yome ) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kore Yamazaki. It is serialized in Mag Garden'southward Monthly Comic Garden magazine and is licensed in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment. A iii-office prequel anime OVA was produced by Wit Studio and an anime television series aired from Oct 2017 to March 2018. An original three-part OVA series by Studio Kafka was released in September 2021.
Plot [edit]
Having been ostracized past both her relatives and partially past order, orphaned Japanese high school pupil Chise Hatori decides to sell herself at an auction in order for somebody else to take her in and accept a new place to telephone call home. At the auction in London, she is sold for five million pounds to Elias Ainsworth, a seven-pes-tall humanoid with an animal skull for a head. The magus, who seems closer to a demon than human being, either brings her the light she desperately seeks or drowns her in e'er deeper shadows in her new country, Great Britain. The serial deals with a romantic slice-of-life storyline in a surreal and supernatural light.

- A teenage amateur and future bride of Elias Ainsworth. Her father and brother abandoned the family when she was young, and her female parent committed suicide in front of her causing her to feel unwanted past her relatives. She sold herself to slavery, in order for someone to accept her in. She is sold for five million Pounds to Elias. He tells her she is a Sleigh Beggy, a special magus who can describe magic from her surroundings and from within herself. However, this severely strains their bodies, making Sleigh Beggys very weak, and fated to die prematurely. Hence, Elias bought her with hopes of preventing her early decease in nearly 3 years. Her minor and frail country has led others to give her the nicknames of Robin, and Little Bird Mage. She oft receives gifts that suppress her magic to maintain her wellness. Later being taken in by Elias she starts practicing magic, and finds she has a talent for slumber magic, but can also perform whatever blazon of magic at the cost of tremendous strain.

She worked hard to find her own method of performing magic. She later married, and had a daughter Althea.
- Silvery ( シルキー , Shirukī , "Silky")

- A fairy landlady of the house where Elias and Chise reside. Originally a banshee, she is now a silent silkie and takes intendance of the housekeeping duties in the household. While protecting Chise, she dislikes Simon Kalm the hamlet priest, glaring at him when he enters Elias' firm and wrapping her arms around Chise.
- Lindenbaum ( リンデル , Rinderu , "Lindel")

- Unremarkably called Lindel, he is Elias's magician primary. He lives in the Land of Dragons. Guarding the last sanctuary of dragons, he is the flagman of the dragon's nest. His championship is Echoes: Vocal of Flowers, and is many centuries onetime.
- Leanan Sídhe ( リャナン・シー , Ryanan Shī )

- A cute vampiric faerie who loves men and gives them talent at the toll of dying immature. She had potent feelings for an old man named Joel Garland, but denied that they were in love as honey would mean his inevitable death. Unfortunately, her presence was already killing him unintentionally at a slow charge per unit. Subsequently learning this, Chise created a remedy that allowed them to come across each other one last time. Later Joel's passing, she tells Chise she volition be living in Joel's garden and volition not await for more lovers anymore. She is a proud and very kind motherly figure to Ainsworth and frequently requests he come to alive with her in the faerie kingdom. - A friend of Chise and the older sister of Ethan. While visiting her grandparents over Christmas she got into an statement with Ethan, in which later, he goes to the woods. Then she ran into Chise and Elias, telling them what happened and begging for their assist. They agreed to help, then found out that it was Ashen Centre that took Stella's blood brother. - Chise and Fumiki's belatedly mother. Originally before her death, she was kind, loving and soft-spoken; she tried protecting her daughter from the creatures that were fatigued to her--but subsequently a while, she grew to hate her own daughter. The stress of having to intendance for Chise tore her autonomously and she decided to end her ain life past killing herself in front of Chise. The serial was first serialized in Magazine Garden's Monthly Comic Bract from November 30, 2013, to September 1, 2014, when the magazine ceased publication.[15] [16] The series was moved to the new Monthly Comic Garden magazine, while also continuing to exist released on the Monthly Comic Blade website.[4] [sixteen] Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the series for publication in N America in Oct 2014.[four] [17]
A drama CD was arranged with the limited edition of the fifth book, released in March 2016.[3]

Anime [edit]
A three-role prequel anime was announced in the fifth volume of the manga.[55] The serial is titled The Ancient Magus' Helpmate: Those Pending a Star ( 魔法使いの嫁 星待つひと , Mahō Tsukai no Yome: Hoshi Matsu Hito ). Information technology is directed by Norihiro Naganuma and written by Kore Yamazaki, with scripts by Aya Takaha. Wit Studio produced the blitheness and Production I.Thousand is credited with planning and production. Hirotaka Katō designed the characters and Bamboo is in charge of the background art.[7] [56] The series' music is composed past Junichi Matsumoto and produced by Flying Canis familiaris.[eight] [55]

An anime goggle box series adaptation was appear on March 10, 2017, and aired from Oct seven, 2017, to March 24, 2018, on MBS, Tokyo MX, BS11 and other Japanese channels.[61] [ten] JUNNA performed the opening theme "Here",[62] and Hana Itoki performed the ending theme "Wa –bike-" ( 環-bike- ).[63] The second opening theme is "You lot" by May'n, and the catastrophe theme is "Tsuki no Mō Hanbun" ( 月のもう半分 , The Moon is Already a Half Moon ) by AIKI & AKINO from bless4.[64] Funimation streamed an English language dub.[65] The anime won the best drama award at the 2017 Crunchyroll anime awards. Manga Entertainment will distribute the series on home video in the United Kingdom and Ireland.[66]
An original three-role OVA serial titled The Aboriginal Magus' Helpmate: The Male child From the W and the Knight of the Mountain Haze was announced in March 2021, with the episodes being bundled with the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth volumes of the manga, between September 10, 2021, March 10, 2022, and September ten, 2022.[67] The OVA series is animated by Studio Kafka and directed past Kazuaki Terasawa, with scripts by Aya Takaha and Yoko Yonaiyama. Hirotaka Katō returns to design the characters, and Junichi Matsumoto returns to etch the series' music.[68]

Volume two appeared on The New York Times manga bestsellers list for four weeks, rising to third place for ii.[81] Volume three debuted on the list at second place,[82] volume four debuted at first identify,[83] and volume five debuted at fourth place.[84]

He ended his review by writing: "What conflict all these lovely details might exist leading towards is a mystery and then far, only the execution is so strong that I'm ready to follow wherever it leads."[85] In his review of the 2nd volume, he admitted to coming to an appreciation of the master characters' relationship, writing that "the ambiguities of their human relationship actually seem like ane more plumbing equipment piece of a world where every relationship is cryptic". He called the series' magic "classic but still refreshing". He as well commented that the series' fine art "remains gorgeous and well-suited to the story all throughout this book ... the backgrounds are lush and faces expressive, and the whole style has an ornate looseness to it that works perfectly for this kind of fantasy storytelling". He concluded by maxim "If y'all take whatsoever appreciation for this manner of archetype fantasy storytelling, Ancient Magus' Bride is a can't-miss product".[86]
